Institut de recherche pour le développement (IRD)



Originally founded in 1944, the Institut de Recherche pour le développement is a French public research institute. IRD operates in 35 countries and in 5 French overseas territories, conducting its research in close cooperation with numerous Southern partner institutions through national, European and international programmes.

The IRD fulfils three main missions: research, training and consultancy. IRD research focuses on the relationship between man and the environment in the tropical and Mediterranean countries, with a view to contributing to the sustainable development.
