Having always been interested in drug related research, Aya chose a bachelor degree in the German university in Cairo with a major of pharmacy and a minor of biotechnology. After graduating with highest honours, she got selected in the top research master Molecular mechanisms of disease in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. During her masters she learned alot of skills and gained research experience. She did one internship in the department of tumor immunology in RIMLS in nijmegen. Her project was on the role of different dendritic cell subtypes on the etiology of type 1 diabetes mellitus. For her second year Aya recieved an erasmus scholarship to do her master thesis in Milan, Italy in the European institute of oncology (IEO) where she focused on the use of statins in cancer. She graduated her masters with honours. To improve computational and statistical skills she decided to do an extra internship in the CMBI in Nijmegen on cheminformatics where she developed a KNIME pipeline for the prediction of drug toxicity using the 2D fingerprint similarity of drugs. Next to these technical experiences she gained alot of soft skills as a result of being a participant of different exchange programs as well as living and working in 5 different countries including India, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and her home country Egypt.
Next to her work as a researcher Aya enjoys travelling, sports, reading and playing the drums.
